Responsibilities: I am a UX manager to this product. I am responsible for managing and leading UX works; interaction design, visual design and usability study.
Challenges: Magellan™ Data Discovery was initially built for data analyst. The product is powerful and full-featured but difficult to use. It has a steep learning curve, and the interface is not intuitive. There are complex features, which are hidden in the navigation. Users have problem finding actions. Moreover, the technical challenges (front-end and back-end framework) makes it difficult to any UI changes.
The team recognize the complexity of the product and have develop the modes based on personas. In 2018, the business users mode was launched. It has friendly drag-and-drop capability and less complex navigation that suitable to business users.
